Two of the hottest new BlackBerry smartphones will be on sale on Black Friday from online phone retailer Wirefly. Wirefly just informed us about their hot Black Friday smartphone deals. The new BlackBerry Storm2 touchscreen phone from Verizon Wireless will be selling for only $0.99 and the AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9700 (Bold2) will be free with contract.  

The week marches on and today being Saturday means it is time to recap the recent happenings in the world of Windows Mobile. The Windows Marketplace for Mobile only launched for phones running WM 6.5 a week ago, but this week it hit all phones running WM 6.x. Those with phones running WM 6.0 or 6.1 can now get into the Marketplace by downloading the app to the phone.  

A new application for the Android smartphone shows users and software developers how much power their applications are consuming. PowerTutor was developed by doctoral students and professors at the University of Michigan. Battery-powered cell phones serve as hand-held computers and more these days.  

The wireless chip industry expects smartphone market surge to continue, with British microchip designer ARM saying growth would likely even accelerate further next year. The smartphone market slowed drastically in the September quarter, but chip makers -- whose products are sold weeks, if not months, before phones are sold to consumers -- said they were seeing strong market growth, indicating third quarter slowdown was temporary. Motorola has confirmed that it will be sorting out the Droid camera problems via an automatic over-the-air (OTA) update. The Droid's current 5-megapixel camera often seems to have trouble focusing and it also seems to produce red corners in photos taken. The problem has been cited as a rather weird timing bug related to the time, which seems to be correct as users seem to have been able to avoid the problem by changing the date on the phone.  

The newest Palm smartphone with 3G connection, QWERTY keyboard, social networking applications built-in, EV-DO connectivity, GPS through Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV, Amazon.com MP3 store, and 5 hours of talk time has been reduced to a mere $25 on Amazon.com with a 2 year contract of course. This is about $75 less than buying the phone from Sprint itself. This is the perfect deal for Palm fans that want to save a few bucks this holiday season.  

Corby (model S3653), a stylish new mobile handset of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, is now available at the local market, particularly for the young generation. High officials of Samsung and Electra, a distributor, unveiled three fashionable cell phone sets Friday at a city hotel. Here we go again; another Research In Motion (RIM) prototype device exposed on the Internet loooong before the BlackBerry-maker intended.
